Can't create Preview signature with camera

I have a MacBook Air for personal use and one from work. On my work MacBook, I was able to create and store a signature in Preview using the camera but I can't get this tool to work on my personal MacBook. The camera is not recognizing and automatically capturing the signature.

I browsed some old posts about this problem and tried the follow suggestions (none of which worked):

--restarted the computer

--verified that the camera is identified/active in the system information

--created a different user on the computer

--restarted in Safe Mode to reattempt (in Safe Mode the camera option was grayed out/not available in Preview)

Both computers are using Preview version 11.0

My personal MacBook is running macOS Monterey version 12.4

My work MacBook was running macOS Monterey version 12.2 initially but I updated to 12.4 and the camera signature capture still worked.

Any ideas how I can fix this issue? Thank you.

Create a signature using your computer’s built-in camera: Click Camera. Hold your signature (on white paper) facing the camera so that your signature is level with the blue line in the window. When your signature appears in the window, click Done. If you don’t like the results, click Clear, then try again.
