NVRAM keyboard error problem?

For some time I have used a non-Mac K5000 card in my 5,1 Mac Pro. It worked great with Sierra, but High Sierra did not like it. I replaced it with a Mac K5000 card which High Sierra liked. I am using the latest NVidia driver. The first several times I turned the machine on I could see the boot screen as expected. But over the two weeks, I saw less of the logo screen and the startup was similar to the non-Mac card. Thinking this might be the NVRAM, I attempted to reset it, but instead of the option key I pressed down the control key. Upon completing the reset the machine wouldn't go past startup. I would hear the chime and the monitor would activate but the machine would then reboot. I have tried several times to reset the NVRAM using two direct USB Mac keyboards. Also unplugging and replugging the machine. I have also tried to boot to a USB boot stick, but keyboard commands seem to have no effect and I am using a direct Mac USB keyboard. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Mac Pro, 10.13

Hi. Thank you for the prompt reply. I went through the discharge routine, unplugging, waiting and then power button for ten seconds. After the procedure the problem was still there. Your suggestion about a failing GPU was correct. After thinking about the symptoms and your suggestion, I replaced the K5000 with a known good K4000 which I had in the machine before the K5000. Swapped cards and the machine boots up normally and shows no problems.

Now I am on a hunt for a replacement K5000 or another equivalent or better card. Any thoughts on such? Thank you again for your help. Sincerely appreciated. In this Covid time, good help is like a good friend.
