My iCloud storage is full and it shows that my backups are taking up space. I have done the trick where you delete old backups to free up space as well as turn off any unnecessary app backups and that did not make a difference. I want to know why I can do to reduce the size of my backups without having to purchase more space?

You can disable iCloud backup and use your Mac to store backup. You need to do your own risk assessment because if your computer fails you will lose your backup too.
