1 - Restart in Safe Mode. This will perform a Disk Repair, clear cache files and only load Apple Software, extensions and fonts. The boot up will be slow and can take some time - Normal.

2 - Does the issue present in this mode ?

3 - Sometimes a Safe Boot followed by a Normal Boot will just put things right.

4 - If not - there could be something in the main User Account playing up. To further isolate this - Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac. Then log out of the Main User account and log into the dummy account and test again if the issue persists.

5 - If the issue is present in the dummy account - then, this appears to be a System Wide issue on the computer.

6 - If after performing each of the above steps in the order that have been presents and still have issues - please advise for possible further assistance.

Understand, we are all working Remotely from all around the world.

Therefore, we do not have the On-Hands experience the User ( you ) has with this computer.

The next best thing for us to having a semi - actual On-Hand experience with this computer is to follow the steps below

Download the Application Etrecheck directly from a well Respected ASC Contributor. And Safe to use.

The application is free or paid from added features.

Run the application with Full Disc Access ( Security & Privacy - Full Disc Access ).

It will take a Snap Shot -  both the hardware and software.

The Report will Not Reveal Any Personal Information.

Post back the Full Report - copy and paste - using the Additional Text Icon ( 3rd Icon to last )

We can have a look at the report for possible issues and may have possible suggestions to resolve the issues.

Problem: Apps are crashing

Description: The Contact app is not working. I cant create or edit a contact.

1 - Fix corrupted Contacts database thanks to Contributor @Barney-15E

2 - If the Contact Application is Associated to Google as source. Suggest Un-Check the Sync from Contacts. Then make or Add the contact information. Then, re-enable the Sync process. Have seen this type of issue when Apple and Google do not play niece with each other

Major Issues:

Q - Unsigned files - There are unsigned software files installed that could be malicious and should be reviewed.

A -Worth being safer than sorry. There is Adware & Malware which will affect the computer and is generally downloaded from “ Shady “ Websites or Developers who Inject this software into the download.

Should “ Certain & Specific Software “ referenced from above be installed - it will negatively impact macOS. It is suggested, to download directly from a respected ASC Contributor, the application Malwarebytes for Mac

It is free or paid for added features.

Run the Application and it should remove the malware / adware. Once done, restart computer and test.

Minor Issues:

Q - Clean up - There are orphan files that could be removed.

A - User attention needed to clean this up

Q - Unsigned files - There are unsigned software files installed. These files could be old, incompatible, and cause problems. They should be reviewed

A - Although Not Signed By an Apple Certificate  - some applications may need to updated / upgraded to be more Monterey compatible

Q -  Runaway user process - A user process is using a large percentage of your CPU.

A - This maybe because and related to previous outdated applications

Q -  Low performance - EtreCheck report took an unusually long time to run.

Q - Performance: Below Average

A - Could be signs of some semi-serious Hardware issue that a  visit to the Apple Genus Bar may warrant

Hardware Information:

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports)

  MacBook Pro Model: MacBookPro13,1

Drives:

Q - disk0 - APPLE SSD AP0256J 251.00 GB (Solid State - TRIM: Yes)

Q- disk1s5 - S*********  - Data [APFS Virtual drive]

250.69 GB (Shared - 174.65 GB used, 63.35 GB available, 54.97 GB free)

A - The drive is getting a little Low on Empty Space. It is suggested to keep at least 15%  to 20% of the Drive Total Capacity as Empty Space for good operations of the computer and for additional updates to Monterey to download, expand and install.

Hey! Found this as an answer to someone else's same question and IT WORKED!

paste: Califgrl—having worked on trying to resolve this issue for over a year, I think today I have finally solved it. At least I can finally add and edit new Contacts so far...

>> I found advice in MacRumors—and this fixed it! I went to Contacts/Preferences/General Tab, and made my iCloud primary. It was set on Gmail (though I don't recollect ever opting for that). Voila! At very long last...

PS I use multiple email accounts on iCloud, Gmail and Outlook, and really would hate having to go to multiple browser interfaces instead of Apple Mail and Contacts. So happy that I could finally get this awful issue resolved.

Ah, the trials and tribulation of mixing Apple OS with Google as it relates to the Contacts Application.

From my experience and only personal choices - if I use Google I use Google OS. If I use Apple, I use Apple OS, If I use Microsoft I use Windows and the three live happily together on separate devices
