Shift+Click does not work

I have worked with macs since 1985.

I can assure you that Shift-click has always worked the same way in icon view.

Press Command-2 to switch to List View, shift-click works as you want, Command-1 and you are back in icon view.

Or do you mean Control + Click on multiple items, either randomly or in order, to select them in either the list or icon view?

That's normal. You can click and drag a selection rectangle while in icon view.

Not sure how it's more practical. Either way you have to move the mouse from the start to the finish. Plus, click and drag only requires one click, not two.

Just to reiterate what dialabrain said: this is how it has always worked.

For many years I worked in the computer graphics/desktop publishing fields and I still didn't use icon view. For me anyway, the icons were too small to be useful.

Maybe I should have mentioned I've worked with Macs since 1985 as well. 😎

You need to hold down the Control key while selecting those items you want to drag to the Trash bin in the Dock.

You can't with just one drag, it would take two. Of course if shift-click did work in icon view you would have to shift-click each row.

Of course you wouldn't have that problem if in Column, List or Gallery View. Might be why I'm never in icon view. 😎
