notifications in Messages not working on iPhone or iPad - no sounds or banners

I get an unread message number that shows on the Messages app icon on the Home Screen of the iPhone and iPad, and I don’t get a red dot at the top of the Apple Watch face indicating unread messages. But I get no sound.

All of this was working until a day or two ago. I noticed that every saved message thread had the notification off showing (the bell with the line through it). I turned every one of them back to ON (bell with no line through it). I’ve rebooted all three devices, and I’ve turned notifications OFF then back ON on all devices. No sound and no banners on any device when new messages arrive.

I have an Apple Watch (OS 8.6), iPhone 11 (iOS 15.5), iPad Air 2 (iPad OS 15.5). I’m a seasoned user but this one has me stumped.

Focus is not on on watch. Apple Watch Notifications setting set to Mirror iPhone.

Messages settings on iPhone.

Allow notifications is on. Lock Screen, Notification Center, Banners all checked on iPhone and iPad.

Banner style - Temporary

Sounds - Choo Choo

Badges - ON

Show in CarPlay - ON

Show Previews - Always(default)

Notification Grouping - Automatic

Customize Notifications / Repeat Alerts - Once

Thanks for responding everyone. I callled Apple Support. We went thru everything on both the iPhone and iPad. Nothing was set wrong. She finally had me do a complete reset of the iPad after noting that the iPad wasn’t showing a new message number on the Home Screen Icahn when a new message arrived. After that, it took powering off all 4 devices (watch, phone, iPad, iMac) at the same time. That seemed to fix it. Not sure what caused the problem. Hopefully it doesn’t come back.
