Mac OS Monterey - Samsung Xpress M2070W printer prints garbage

So I have since 3 or 4 years a Samsung Express M2070W printer and one day, when printing several pages from iMac, the printer kept printing just garbage: random characters, 1 or 2 lines per page, sooo many pages. I had to stop it in order to keep trees alive!!

I changed routers and it was almost impossible to get the printer working again. The blue led (WiFi) did not turn on and after installing so many drivers, finally I got it to connect and work.

The thing is that if I print from my MBP or iPhone, perfect, but anything sent from my M1 Mac mini (sold the iMac last year) just prints garbage. Any ideas? Any help? PLEASE!!!!

Thanks.

Hi,

The Samsung Xpress M2070W is listed in About AirPrint - Apple Support as a model supporting the driverless AirPrint technology. This means that it can be used without having to install additional drivers, provided that the printer and the Mac computer(s) are connected to the same network (Wi-Fi router). Printing from an iPhone or iPad on the same network would be possible as well (without an extra app).

Has the printer been added using AirPrint, or are drivers from HP (Samsung printers are now part of HP) installed?

The latest printer driver appears to be the (May 9, 2022) https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/SS/Print_Common_SW/Samsung_Mac_Driver_V3.93.03.dmg (https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/samsung-xpress-sl-m2070-laser-multifunction-printer-series/16450377/model/16450387/swItemId/ss-290259-1).

If necessary, try to reset the printing system.

If there is a problem with AirPrint, and if all settings are OK, you may want to try the following procedure (in the exact order):

Power off the Wi-Fi router, the printer, the Mac computer(s), the iPhone, and all other devices/computers. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the router. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the printer. Wait a minute or two. Power on the Mac computer(s) and the iPhone. Finally, power on all other devices/computers.

Hello Antonio,

Thank you for the additional information.

First of all the wireless printer connection to the router. If there is a problem with this, you may want to try WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) instead, if the router supports it. See the following manual (page 151):

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05790142.pdf#E11.CHDIGICA

It is usually not a bad idea to remove old/incompatible printer drivers (and utilities) from the computer before testing something new. Also, disconnect a USB cable if you want to use a wireless connection.

As always, make sure that you have backup copies of all important files (documents, photos, etc) before testing anything.

Once you have a stable Wi-Fi connection, with the printer, the Mac computer(s), and the iPhone connected to the same network (Wi-Fi router), AirPrint should work without further software. You should be able to test the AirPrint capability as such by trying to print from the iPhone. It should be possible to add an AirPrint printer on the Mac computer(s) without installing printer drivers at all. Bonjour/mDNS is used for device discovery.

Printer software and drivers from a printer manufacturer may or may not add functionality. If you for some reason want a driver instead of using AirPrint, you could perhaps try the universal driver V3.93.03 from HP (link above) with M2070 chosen as the printer model. See also this post.

Hey, Jan, so nice of you to help with your answer. It's been a journey and a long story. Actually, I never had to install anything, Mac did it all. But yesterday, soooo frustrated, I reseted the printing system and could not get the thing to connect. Finally (don't ask me how, I really cannot remember after so many tries) it did, but still get some garbage. Now, after making some tests, if I try to print from Notes, Pages or Calendar, I get garbage. If trying to print an email, message, webpage, pdf or Excel files (I don't use Numbers), it prints fine. I added the printer with AirPrint but had installed the drive.

I am reluctant of resetting again the system as I was very unable to get it to connect, as I said, until it finally connected. If I install your driver, should I try and get rid of all the Samsung files beforehand?

Also, the scanner does not work:

Again, so nice, thanks!!
