MacBook Pro with High CPU usage when connect with External monitor

Hi,

After upgrading to macOS Monterey 12.4 (21F79), when using an external monitor (I have an LG 29UM69G-B monitor), connected directly to USB-C, the CPU easily goes to 100%, as per the attached images.

The problem is similar to the one reported at https://discussions.apple.com/thread/253855602, but since I couldn't answer or add my question to that thread, I created a new one.

Hi Lee,

Thanks for the answer. Yup. I tried plugging the external monitor into different USB-C ports (I read on a forum that putting the monitor on the left side of the USB would improve, but it didn't).

I also tested it in Safe Mode and the problem persists.

And finally, I tested the solution present at https://www.alphr.com/kernel_task-high-cpu/ , doing the SMC Reset and NVRAM Reset. Nothing works... :-(

Anyway... In my opinion it seems to be some configuration or change that was made on macOS Monterey, because it didn't happen on Catalina and BigSur using the same equipment.

Hi Guys,

I am having the same issue and I have the same MacBook specs:

I had tried many tutorials in the forum and nothing helped to find the solution :(

I tried:

- NVRAM reset

- SMC reset

- Change the USB adapter

- Change the side of the USB adapter and USB power port

- Delete some files to get more space on the disk

- Disable spotlight index ( some time mds_store gets high CPU usage)

- Safe mode

- Unplug the power force

- With mac open and closed

and nothing changes the high CPU usage with the external monitor.
