MacBook Pro 2018 Camera Not working "FlexGate" !!
Hey guys I don't know what options I have anymore,
My sisters 2018 MacBook Pro's 13inch Camera stopped working. We went through all the support diagnosis and finally took it to the apple store. The only option that they gave was to change the display for 918 DOLLARS !!!!!!. I mean the guy suggested I just put a webcam on my MacBook and use it that way and while grinning.
I started to do some research and came across the infamous flexgate issue of the previous models. I know they tried increasing the length of the flex cables by 2mm on the 2018 models to try to solve the issue. So I then tried closing and opening Photo Booth at certain angles to see if this was actually the issue and you guessed it, It's flexgate all over again. Ive went through the forums and see many people with the same issue. Ive tried everything to explain it to the senior service advisors and all they ever say is oh its not included in the 2016 model service program BUT THEY ADMIT THEY KNOW THE ISSUE BEHIND IT IS THOSE FLEX CABLES. For what's it worth, the senior advisors ive talked to were nice overall. But the fact that apple knows about this issue but still asks the customer to pay for a screen replacement for a design fault is completely mind baffling.
Furthermore, I live in Ontario, Canada and our consumer laws are practically non-existent so Im not covered under that. And I am out of any kind of warranty coverage. I purchased it in April 2019 so my AMEX coverage wont even apply. I mean do you guys have any suggestions on what to do? Should I keep nagging apple support everyday? We are both students so an iPad is being used for video calls. But the fact that Apple sold a laptop bought in 2019 which stops working because of a "KNOWN" design fault in 2022 AND THEN holds the customer liable for a 900+ DOLLAR REPAIR BILL is beyond me. I mean of course I could just pay the repair bill but its kinda hard as student and wouldn't feel right since its 95% of the cost of a brand new MacBook Air.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
-Multi.
