How can you manage Messages native app in a MDM environment and deploy a retention policy for imessages?

We are trying to get the message app to default to iMessage and deploy a global policy for message retention to 30 days.

is there a way to save imessages forever on my mac but only for 30 days on my ios devices? I want to free up some space on my iPad and iPhone, but I do want to keep my iMessages forever, just not on those devices. I have a lot of space on my mac mini so I was hoping I could keep the 'forever' setting there and have my iOS devices only save messages for a year or 30 days. Does anyone know if this is possible? or will the setting sync across all my devices?

Is there a time limit for edit and delete on iMessage? It looks like only recent messages can be changed or deleted.
