I cannot download the latest update
The update will not load. I went into System Preferences, and will not load. I have MacOS Catalina. I already shut down and tried again.

If you have Catalina 10.15.7 and all security updates applied, there would be no further update. If your iMac is a mid-2014 thru 2020 model, you can upgrade to Big Sur or later, based on https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211683 Your hardware model introduction date will determine which version of macOS you can upgrade too, and the appropriate links to the Mac App Store versions are in the above link.
