No you don't need an antivirus program. Unless you have jailbroken your phone it is not susceptible to viruses.

Well @Kurtosis12, I suppose it's understandable enough to at least try to help. Getting malware on iPhones is incredibly rare because you can only download apps for the Apple App Store, which is kept clean of malware by Apple. Like @Kurtosis12 said, only 'jailbroken' (iPhones with fake software installed before the user logged in) Websites might try to trick you into thinking you have malware on your phone though, in order to get you to surrender a password or other personal info. By 'froze up' do you mean the phone is completely unresponsive? If not, just close the pop-up that says HACK.

it was a trick ,,, i presume, i was able to close out ,, i promptly turned unit off (((( my iPhone )) after 10 minutes, fired it back up. Seems fine.

Makes me wonder though. Everyone says not to worry apple iPhones are safe.

As ZacisBac pointed out, those popups can be designed as phishing scams to try and get information out of you. They are also designed to scare you into buying needless software to supposedly scan for viruses. They are worthless and a waste of money. Apps are sandboxed in memory meaning they are completely isolated from other apps and data so they can't scan anything outside their own app.

Thanks, I'll try to remember that.

Guess I will be careful. I was just Lucky this time, newbie myself, some nasty other site came up, luckily after a freeze of window time i was able to close safari and immediately shut it off. Left it alone to think on it. So far -- all is well.

Again thanks for reply. I will limit usage or questions to this excellent site.

Everyone take care KEEP UP THE GOOD WORKS!!!!!!

Anytime an unknown link pops up, just close the tab. You don't even need to turn off the phone. Rest assured the hackers have no power over you if you don't listen to them or give them any info.

No probs, cc! And no need to limit yourself. If you ever have a question about your apple devices, feel free to use this website!
