Macbook Microphone Disconnect

My boss last year upgraded to the 16-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar and hates the "hardware microphone disconnect." He loved how he could tuck his past Macbook under his display and just have one screen for everything.

My question is will the microphone switch over to the Apple Studio display since it's Apple or does it fully disconnect as well? If it does disconnect, are there any options he might have to stay with one display and keep his mac tucked away?

Hi,

You can change microphone from internal to external at System Preferences > Sound > input.

Would that be on any display with a built in microphone and webcam?

No, as far as I know, it's an Apple made display only, though there could be third party displays of webcam and microphone which could be used as external webcam and microphone of MacBook Pro.
