External drives on M1 MacBook Pro aren't working

Hi,

My 1TB hard drive, 8TB hard drive, SD cards on the adapter or on the macbook reader or any other external drive are not working.

i tried all the finder preferences, and utility disk functions, all my drives are there in the utility disk, but nothing will work, the repairing says it's all good, if i click mount i get this ''com.apple.DiskManagement.disenter error -119930872''.

Can this be a macOS problem ?

Hey amine268,

It's good to know the external disks show in Disk Utility. First, a software update was recently released to macOS 12.5. Take a moment to install the update as it installs bug fixes and security updates, then check to see if the issue continues: Update macOS on Mac - Apple Support

If that doesn't help, have you tried using them with another computer to rule out an issue with the drives? If that's not the case let's help to narrow this down and isolate it more by testing in safe mode and another user account.

Safe mode prevents certain software from opening and completes great checks on startup. More information on starting to safe mode and steps to take after starting there can be found here: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

If the behavior continues after the steps from safe mode, create a new user account (administrator) to see if the behavior happens there. This will let us know if it is system-wide or something within your user account: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac - Apple Support

Keep us posted on the results.

Take care!

Hello TammyW-03,

I am pleased to let you know that my problem is solved, ans as you have guessed it was a software problem, i was so frustrated by it that i went and reinstalled the MacOs.

To summarise, i had already had the latest MacOs update, i just reinstalled it, so i'm not sure what has been the real issu.

Thank you for your response

Hi there! I am having this same issue, previously I had no trouble connecting my Lacie hard drive to my Macbook. I updated last week and since Friday I cannot connect my drive or mount it.

The device works perfectly on my other Macbook and other devices so it's not the hard drive and my MacBook is new and hasn't moved from its location since I initially used the Lacie, so there's no chance that damage occurred to the port since it was last connected.

There are no updates available for my Mac, how can I re-install the most recent update? Or how should I proceed from here?

Hi ccloves,

I also had the last update of mac os, the only method that worked for me is reinstalling the Macos, without loosing data, you can do so by :

1- Shutting down your mac

2- turn it on holding the finger print scanner for about 5seconds

3- click on "Option" and then "continue"

4- you'll see the option "reinstall MacOs", click on that and follow the instructions

you'll have to wait until Mac os downloads and installs and reboots.

I hope it works for you as it did for me

Please note that i'm not a professional technician, i'm sharing the solution that worked for me

Cheers.
