The connection details state, “Connecting a thunderbolt or an Ethernet cable may transfer data faster “. So, from what to what do you connect the Ethernet cable? Use an ethernet cable from old Mac to new Mac? So do you connect only new Mac to Ethernet? What is the proper connection points?

If the new iMac you have is the entry-level two-port model as shown in your equipment line:
it does not have a dedicated Ethernet port. You will need an adapter like this:

It actually works better to hook up a Time Machine drive.
But you can connect Ethernet Mac to Mac.
So why does it say that an Ethernet cable can transfer data faster? What is it referring to? Thanks.
