NFTS

What is NFTS for Mac? Do I need it? Should I have it? Will it screw up my MacBook Air?

MacBook Air 11″, macOS 10.13

Hi,

If you mean NTFS, it's a Windows file system that Mac cannot write to. The only reason you would need it is if you have an external drive formatted NTFS and you need to work with the drive on your Mac. If you do, you can use it and it won't "screw up" your Mac. What most people find easier to do is format the external drive as exFAT as both Windows and Mac can read and write to it without modifications.

As previous poster has explained.

The downside of using the Windows Formatted External Drive in the Native Windows NTFS format is you will be required to install Third Party Software on the Apple Computer.

That can be done but and yes but, that Third Party can ( does not mean will ) cause issues on the Apple Computer

Think the idea of Formatting the drive to exFAT is a better idea
