macOS External Drive Error

Hello guys,

I had and run macOS 12.1 till the 12.5 update

now I keep getting this error even on a clean install on an SSD External drive

Your computer started up in Recovery because of a problem.

The current instance of macOS does not match what was expected by Apple.

Reinstall macOS To resolve the issue.

I have formatted the drive many times and started over. Once the download is complete and installed, and mac rebooted this message pop up again and again.

Please advice!

About Startup Security Utility on a Mac with the Apple T2 Security Chip

Running Monterey from an External Drive is problematic at best especially since about 12.3 to 12.3.1 and again from 12.3.1 to 12.4 and as you have just proved again in 12.5

You may require Re-Formatting the External Drive to Zero and starting from Scratch

Well, unless your put aside the Original Full Version " Installer Monterey " and specifically version 12.1- sorry no way know to reverse / downgrade back to 12.1

Even running softwareupdate --list-full-installers

Finding available software

Software Update found the following full installers:

* Title: macOS Monterey, Version: 12.5, Size: 12112497KiB, Build: 21G72

* Title: macOS Monterey, Version: 12.4, Size: 11819688KiB, Build: 21F79
