use of cable with usb on 9th generation Ipad

Hi. My 2 year old Ipad cratered due to a failure in the lightening connection. No warranty can't be fixed I am told so I purchased a 9th generation Ipad. . but the cord had no usb connection. So I cannot restore my old Ipad info to the new one. Can I use the cord from the older Ipad to to connect the new one to the computer to restore? Or will it damage the port. Gotta say I am a little nervous as my old Ipad was finicky and I alway had issues with the port. If I can't do that how do I set up the new Ipad. Technologically challenged. Thank for any help someone can give me.

Your new iPad appears to have a USB-C port - not Lightning. The new iPad will have been supplied with a USB-C to USB-C charging/data cable - and a USB-C Power Adapter.

If your PC/Mac computer only has the older USB Type-A connections, you simply require a USB Type-A to USB-C cable. These are readily available from good computer stores - and from Apple. Here is one example of suitable cable manufactured by mophie, marketed by Apple:

As for transferring your data from old to new iPad, you don’t necessarily need to use your computer. These support pages should get you started with setup of your new iPad - and outline the available methods of transferring your data from old to new iPad:

Set up your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch – Apple Support

Transfer data from your previous iOS device to your new iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Use Quick Start to transfer data to a new iPhone, iPad or iPod touch – Apple Support

If the donor iPad, from which you are transferring your data precedes iOS12.4, QuickStart will not be available.

“Transfer” is rather a misnomer. In reality, your data and setup is merely cloned to the new device. Nothing is moved or removed from the original device.

An alternative is to restore either an iCloud or iTunes backup to the new device:
