Using Terminal to try to create a bootable USB drive installer for Monterey, per Apple Support page instructions got "command not found" error message.

As HWTech said, please post a screenshot of the actual command you used.
"command not found" is exactly what it says, and in all likelihood it was because of a user typo.
When typing commands in Terminal, the spelling must be exact, including spaces and all.
It would help if you posted a screenshot of the actual command you used. Also, verify that the full installer is in the Applications folder. I believe the Monterey installer app should be about 12GB in size.
I have used this command below successfully
sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Monterey.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled
Notations;
1 - This command will only work if the Full Version of Monterey is located in the Applications folder of this computer
2 - In above command, the Untitled is the Actual Name given to the Destination Drive
3 - The Destination Drive is at least 16 GB Capacity and Formatted as HFS Journaled with the GUID Scheme Partition Map
Thanks to all who responded to my post. I spoke to Apple Support by phone. The adviser said I had done all the steps correctly. He said we could continue to troubleshoot or try another approach. I wound up creating a bootable back up on an external drive. I'm glad I chose this method. I was able to "test drive'" Monterey by booting up from the external drive. I discovered that my Kensington Expert Mouse was not compatible. After some research it appears that Kensington hasn't updated a driver for Monterey. There may be other incompatibility issues. For now keeping my iMac as is until I have more time to do testing.
