Can I change the email account I first set up Apple ID with?
I mistakenly set up an email account for my AppleID and I want to change it. Is this possible?

If you had a 3rd party email address for your Apple ID and you wanted to use iCloud email, you create a primary email address for iCloud. See: Create a primary email address for iCloud Mail - Apple Support
Both have the same Apple ID password (but if you log into your 3rd party email account, you use the 3rd party email password). For example, if your 3rd party email address is james@gmail.com, when you log into your gmail account, you use your gmail password but when you log into Apple, you can use either your gmail address or your iCloud address, but both will use your Apple ID password rather than the password you use to log into google. Also see the following from Create a primary email address for iCloud Mail - Apple Support
After you set up your @icloud.com email address, you can use it to sign in to iCloud.com and your devices in addition to your Apple ID. See Use your Apple ID with iCloud.
After you have a primary iCloud email address, you can create up to 3 email aliases. See: Add and manage email aliases for iCloud Mail on iCloud.com - Apple Support
Aliases also use your Apple ID password.
There is only one password per Apple ID. See the following previous discussion: resetting iCloud alias password - Apple Community

Thanks for the reply. It was helpful, except I asked the wrong question. There is an *alias* email attached to my apple id. I do already have my appleid set as a third party email account, but there is also this icloud email account listed. I set this whole thing up WAY back without proper research and I don't have the password for the "alias" account and so it cannot be used anywhere. Since I have no password for the account, and I cannot find a place to change that password, it is useless. So I can neither access the alias password, nor find a place to change the password, nor find a place to change the alias. I'm stuck... (I know I should have read all the directions before I started this process--my wife has been telling me that for fifty years--but--)
Also, email and contacts on iCloud mail are confusing. What exactly is the relationship between iCloud mail on the web, and on each of the devices? Has anyone written up how these all fit together? I'm trying to research this myself, but so far I've not found enough to answer these questions.
