Samsung Q7 TV only sees Apple TV 4K as unknown device

Hello, just as the title says, My Samsung TV only recognizes my Apple TV 4K device an unknown source and tries to set it up as a cable box which is the same thing my DirecTV receiver did way back when I had satellite TV. Is this normal? I noticed where several years ago someone else created a discussion about the same thing but they stated their Apple TV used to get recognized correctly at one time up until a new firmware update made it no longer recognize properly so is this something that Apple changed, or what? I have good, high-speed cables that are 21Gbps made by Monster and I know all the HDMI-CEC stuff is turned on because the I turn my TV on, it turns the Apple TV on as well.

I had a similar issue with my Samsung TV. What is the name of your Apple TV? On your Apple TV, go to “Settings…General…About”. After I changed the Name back to “Apple TV”, my Samsung TV properly recognized my Apple TV device.

Well it sounds like for now this conversation might’ve hit a dead end because after talking to somebody in Apple Support, they said the most likely reason why my TV is not properly detecting my Apple TV is due to a compatibility issue being that they’re always keeping the device updated and it sounds like Samsung isn’t keeping up with updates on the TV to keep it so that it’ll properly detect these devices. Which actually makes sense now like I was saying the other day when I found out where somebody having the same problem I did when they said that at one point their TV would detect the Apple TV but after a tvOS update, their TV would no longer properly detect it after that.

No disrespect but I don't think trying a different cable is going to make anything different and after spending a couple hours with Samsung support, I get the feeling they don't think there's really anything wrong with my TV and they said they would escalate this issue to a higher-level team to see what they can figure out and they'll email me in a couple days but it kind of seems like I need to get with Apple on this because everything else that I've ever connected to this TV gets detected just fine whether it's my PlayStation, an Amazon fire stick, my Blu-ray player and even at one point a satellite TV receiver from Direct TV. My Apple TV device is the only thing that my TV just doesn't want to detect.

I may still try that someday with another cable but after posting this issue in a Facebook audio/video group, there were several people to my surprise who posted saying that they even have several Samsung tvs newer than mine that won’t recognize the Apple TV for what it is.

At least I get good picture and sound, it’s just that my TV is unable to tell that it’s an Apple TV connected to it like it does everything else.
