iPhone will not transfer photos to Windows without getting "Something went wrong". I fixed this and found the issue.
Hey there. I just spent about 13 hours trying to transfer my 9k+ photos to my Windows PC and FINALLY found the issue that everyone is having. I'm sure if you have read other threads on this, you have seen all of the different little things that you can do by changing settings, updating software, reinstalling, etc.
If that worked for you, great. For me, it didn't. However, I found the root cause for my problems. It is simple, yet a pain to take care of but here's how you do it.
Open up Windows Photos. Go to Import from USB Device. Select your Apple Inc. product. Wait for it to find all the photos.
While you wait for that to load, open up Windows Explorer, then navigate to the side panel and go to your iPhone. Once inside, select Internal Storage, then DCIM. (If you don't see this there are settings you will need to change. You can find that on another thread.)
Once you are in your DCIM folder, search for "IMG_E".
This will list several files (For example, mine was IMG_E4600.JPG)
EACH OF THESE FILES ARE THE PROBLEM.
If it has an "E" after the underscore and before the numbers, do not attempt to import it. If you do you will get that lovely message we have been battling for years.
What I did is made sure the search results were in alphabetical order, for ease. Then I went into Windows Photos, and started to select all of the photo groups, and deselecting the ones with the "IMG_E####" names. In my case, the photos in the app were in order from Highest to Lowest (regarding the number of the IMG_####.jpg). I was able to uncheck all of the ones that were "corrupt". Some of them appeared on the very bottom, which was fine because I just didn't select them. Once that was done, I managed to import over 1,000 images without the error.
Thank the Lord. I am so glad I figured this out. Now to go deal with my wife's 8,000+ images on her phone with this same method. Hope this helps someone else and saves YOU 13 hours of head smashing into the keyboard.
Best of luck to you all!
