Notes CloudKit Assets cache folder - ~40GB

What could be possibly taking 40GB?

I have about 300 notes in iCloud, some have screenshots (probably 10% of all the notes).

Only about 20 notes are frequently accessed - others are dormant and haven't been accessed in months.

What can be done to force the native Notes app manage its own cache in a more efficient way?

Any tip is appreciated.

~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Notes/Data/Library/Caches/CloudKit/ac2aae8f33f514e91c627eca98e9a0779157a4a5/Assets
