Ringer volume turns off when Bluetooth in car connects

I have a problem that I see repeated in other people and there is still no solution to it.

When I connect the phone to my BMW 3 (2021), the ringing volume of the phone is automatically reduced to a minimum.

After disconnecting from the car, the volume does not return to the previous state, but is at the minimum.

It is troublesome because I must to remember to raise the volume manually when you leave the car.

Is there already a solution to this problem?

Welcome Adrian_Chmiel,

We understand that when your iPhone 13 is connected to your BMW that ringer volume is low (same when it is then disconnected). We'll do our best to help out with this.

For an issue like this, we'd recommend the following steps:

  1. Check if the issue is related to the Attention Aware feature (which lowers call and alert volumes when you are looking at your iPhone): Turn Attention Aware features on or off on your iPhone or iPad Pro - Apple Support If so, disable the feature to resolve the issue.
  2. Make sure the iPhone is backed up and up to date: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
  3. Ensure the volume is set to ring, and not silent mode: How to put your iPhone on vibrate, ring, or silent mode - Apple Support
  4. If possible, test connecting to another vehicle and see if the issue continues there or not. This will isolate the behavior further for us.

Should it persist, what were the result when testing in another vehicle? Are you using CarPlay when connected to the BMW?

Hoping to hear how it goes, take care.

Hi Adrian_Chmiel,

While we understand you had mentioned earlier you did not have CarPlay, the steps in the article itself would still be good to try. Such as in step 6 for example, even though you don't have CarPlay, you can still go to the settings and to unpair your iPhone from the car.

6. Go to Settings > General > CarPlay, tap your car, then tap Forget This Car. Then set up CarPlay again.

Can you let us know what happened when trying the suggested steps? Were you able to verify the firmware is updated on your BMW?

We look forward to hearing back from you!

Hi,

When I go to

 Settings > General > CarPlay

there is nothing, it asks to press the button on the steering wheel for pairing, nothing more I can do. (I don't have this button)

There is no CarPlay item in the car menu so there's nothing I can do also.

firmware in BMW is up to date.

On the wife's phone (iPhone 11), this problem also occurs.

I checked in BMW in the previous model (2016) and the problem also occurs.

Thanks for getting back to us, Adrian_Chmiel. It’s appreciated. And, also, no need to apologize. We understand that life does get in the way at times.

If you need help with CarPlay - Apple Support -- Even though the title of this article indicates CarPlay only, the steps included can help with other auto manufacturer’s infotainment as well. If you reach step 7, we found this update on BMW’s site: BMW Software Update and Bluetooth® compatibility | BMW.com.

Please let us know the results when you're able.

All the best.

Hi,

Sorry for my late response.

Yes, when my iPhone 13 (or my previous 11) connected to BMW then ringer volume is reduced to a minimum.

  1. It's not a problem with Attention Aware feature, I put iPhone to the glove box so he can't see anything.
  2. is up to date (15.6.1)
  3. I tried with a wireless speaker and this effect does not occur. I will try a different brand car, but I don't know when yet. This effect also occurs in other BMW cars.

I'm not using CarPlay.

Below you can find move with issue.

At the beginning, I increase volume to the maximum, after connecting to the car iPhone reduce volume to a minimum by itself and after disconnecting from the car it does not return to the previous settings
