System storage on MacBook Air 2017

Help please. My system storage is at 81 GB. Only 1.6 GB of space available. Unable to update system.

You are dangerously close to having your computer not work at all. You need to maintain a minimum of about 20 GB of empty space at all times - the OS needs space to do its job. So, delete or move some space hogging stuff (videos, photos, etc) before disaster strikes.


And no, you cannot control system storage except for possibly TimeMachine local snapshots,
