If you're planning to sell or give away your Mac, you should complete these steps instead: Erase all content and settings on Mac - Apple Support (CA)

If you only want to sign out of iMessage, follow these steps:

Open the Messages app on your Mac.
At the top of the screen, select Messages -> Preferences. Or, press Command-Comma.
In the preferences window, select the iMessage tab, then click Sign Out.
