How do I access old photos in iOS backups?

I have found an old iOS back up from my old phone and want to see if there's any missing photos on in there from my old phone. How can I view the old iOS files on either my desktop or iphone?

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.15

You would need to factory reset a phone and set it up using the backup.

Can I retrieve photos from an iPhone backup copy without restoring that backup to a new phone? I would like to access or retrieve photos from an old iPhone backup copy without actually restoring that backup to my new phone - is that possible?
