Windows PC Photo Gallery to Mac Photo Transfer. The people tags and captions are not transferring.

I've been a PC user forever. My laptop is about dead and since I mainly use my computer at work I went with a Mac. My problem is I have over 20k photos on my PC that all have people tags and captions written from Photo Gallery. These tags and captions were taken from what was written on the backs of the original paper photos when I created the digital version. These pictures date all the way back into the 1800's so I cannot lose the data attached to them because I no longer have access to the paper versions.

I need either my Mac to recognize this data or I need something compatible with Mac that is not subscription based so I can move these photos to my Mac and retain the information.

TIA

Extended attributes unique to each operating system get dropped on file transfer between the respective operating system filesystems.

Your next step would be to copy a sampling of these images from Windows onto a FAT32 or exFAT formatted USB stick as a Windows zipped folder of those images. Insert that USB stick on the Mac, drag and drop that zip file to macOS, and then double-click on it in the Finder to unzip it. Did any Windows extended attributes survive in that folder?

Ok. So I was able to move the zipped folder, unzipped with finder. Looking at the data in just a standard picture folder nothing but the date information was able to be seen. When I took certain pictures with people tags and/or captions and opened them with the Photos app I was able to see the captions but still no people tags.

Any other suggestions?
