How do I get the internet recovery to go through?

I saw a lot of different answers to this question, but none that is working for my computer, so I thought I would share what I did exactly and see if I can get some help.

So I got a 2013 iMac. I removed the old iCloud user successfully and got to the utilities. I deleted the OS and was going in the process of installing a new one when I saw that I needed an apple ID. My friend wasn't available to put in her info (the computer will be hers), so I just shut it down without an OS and was going to resume the project when she was available.

Finally, she is available, I use the command+R (windows + R for PC keyboard) and it went into internet recovery. I put in my wifi information and it then attempts to load. The progress bar doesn't move, and it says it will take 24 hours, but then we get an error code -2106f after about 15-30mins.

Anyone got any suggestions on how to fix this?

**before I removed the OS to factory reset it, it was completely updated and fully functional.
