Set up new Mac Air M2 how do I prevent it syncing to iCloud

My new AirM2 arrives in and hour. I would prefer that when I enter my Apple ID it doesn't automatically sync and download from iCloud as I want a clean machine. I intend to use Google Photos and a back up hard drive for all existing photos, files and videos then delete fro iCloud.

Can I prevent iCloud syncing when setting up the AirM2

Prisoner of icloud I'm trying to use my Macbook Air and I opted out of icloud storage (too expensive for me) and I want to use my computer without icloud and store all that I need on the harddrive I already have on my Mac and also, when needed, to transfer the files over to another separate harddrive. I am having difficulty turning off icloud. How can I work on my Macbook Air without icloud? The measley 5 gigs provided will have to suffice but I'd rather not use it altogether. Thanks for any advice.

Designate an external SSD for iCloud sync I have a 2018 MacBook Pro 15” w/ Touch Bar and 512GB SSD (FR972LL/A, Ventura 13.2.1). I want to keep iCloud data synced and downloaded because certain applications report errors when data are not local. Certain custom configuration and data files are stored in iCloud so the same applications on my Mac mini also have access and I don't want to go through the hassle of manually syncing every time changes are made - that never goes well. I'm concerned about running out of disk space as I store more and more on iCloud. How can I designate an external drive on my MBP as the iCloud sync destination? I read this isn't supported. Are there any other solutions for this conundrum, perhaps another cloud storage that does support this successfully for macOS?

You can enter your AppleID, then deselect the items you don't want synced in System Preferences > Apple ID > iCloud.
