SuperDrive Recognizes DVD But Won't Play

Greetings, All:

I have the MacBookPro 2020, 13", M1 running Big Sur & an Apple SuperDrive. The SuperDrive with USB to USB-C connector reads & writes music CDs using Apple Music just fine. I wanted to play a DVD; the DVD is recognized by the DVD Player application. If I launch DVD player, open media, & play, I hear the disc inside SuperDrive but no video plays on the screen.

Any ideas for a fix much appreciated.

One reason could be DRM protection - is the DVD a commercial one with a movie? They typically won't play on a computer (since you could be copying it), but will hooked up to a TV. You should be able to play a homemade movie.
