12.5 Upgrade of Monterrey and NAS not backing up

Hello, I have a QNAP, NAS System, and since the 12.5 upgrade, it recognizes my disk in Time Machine but doesn't back it up. It prepares the backup, and then nothing happens and just says, Waiting to complete the first backup. My wife, who has not upgraded to 12.5, is not having any problems and is currently backing up qs normal. Have any issues been reported? Any ideas on what to do?

Thanks for pointing that out. I finally solved this by entering the NAS through the Finder, connecting as Administrator, opening up Time Machine Folder, and trying to delete my specific sparse bundle. The MAC told me it needed permission to erase all prior backups (of my mac only) as it found an error on my drive section. I gave the permission and then went in to back up again. It took roughly 5 minutes to erase 2TB of Data, and now is performing its first backup of my Mac perfectly.

FWIW, I do not have a QNAP NAS, but use a Synology one. In my case, I am not having any issues with Time Machine with any of my Macs running the latest update to macOS Monterey.

One potential cause of the "preparing backup" issue may be a corrupted Time Machine snapshot on your Mac's drive. A simple way to erase all of them is to cycle Time Machine off, then on. I found this to be the "cure" when all else fails to allow the backup to continue successfully.

Hi Tessrax,

Thanks for the reply.

What do you mean by Cycle off and on TM?

I tried removing the disks by selecting using them, first the QNap Nas, and then one I have directly plugged into my Laptop (La CIE), leaving the Qnap to see if that would get it to do something.. nothing worked. Then I remembered an article about rebuilding the sparse bundle, I went to delete it and rebuild it. But would love to know how you recycle off then on the time machine.

Definitely the Sparse Bundle was corrupt, not sure if that is part of the TM snapshot on my computer.
