How do I change the default tri-tone notification sound to something else?

The default tri-tone sound is used whenever an app does not have options to change notification sounds for specific types of alerts. The single greatest offender is the Mail app. When Mail identifies a delivery notice in email, it sends an alert with the tri-tone sound. I find this quite jarring. Every time a delivery service sends out an email update the tri-tone alert sound is sent to my iPhone and it is quite loud too.

You can set different sounds for different mail accounts. Go to Settings>Notifications>Mail. Scroll down and tap on Customize Notifications. That should produce a list of your mail accounts. Tap on the account, and you will see a page to set Alerts, Sounds, and Badges. When you select Sounds, you can then select whichever tone you wish. That is how I have mine set and so I have a different sound for each of my 3 accounts.

So you are saying that the sound you get from the VIP folder for mail is the tri-tone? Otherwise, I'm guessing that the notification you are getting about a UPS delivery is a notification from the UPS app, is that correct? The tone for Instagram and Tagged is up to the app developers for those notification sounds, not Apple. Voicemail has the option to change sounds if you go to Settings>Sounds & Haptics>New Voicemail and you can change the sound there.

You can provide feedback to Apple by going to Feedback - iPhone - Apple

Thanks, Chris. I have actually turned off the incoming mail sound alerts on all my accounts. I have VIP set to chord. For some reason the emails from UPS saying that I have a delivery coming or an update to a delivery are starred and a tri-tone alert sound is received. Ideally I would be happy turning off the sound entirely, but I was hoping to at least change the tone to something less annoying than the tri-tone sound.

The other offending apps that use the tri-tone alert sound without offering an option in Settings to change it include Voicemail (Phone app), Instagram, and Tagged.

I am beginning to think this is an issue Apple needs to resolve.

The alert about UPS deliveries is coming from the Mail app. I do not have a UPS app. My Whole issue, though, is that tri-tone is so annoying and perhaps, louder than the volume setting I'm using in Sounds & Haptics. I'll try to provide feedback to Apple to have the option to change it to something else. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. Thanks.
