My iPhone won't sync with iTunes. It's an iPhone X Max, 15.6 iOS, with Big Sur 11.6.8 All is up to date with exception of not using Monterrey until I can back up my MacBook Air.

My iPhone won't sync with iTunes. It's an iPhone X Max, 15.6 iOS, with Big Sur 11.6.8 All is up to date with exception of not using Monterrey until I can back up my MacBook Air. I tried the remedies offered by the Apple help page, but no success.

If you're seeing the "Software update is required to connect to your iOS device" alert then this is a patch to Finder, not an upgrade to Monterey, and you should install it to proceed. Note device management and sync duties in Big Sur are in Finder. iTunes has been replaced by Music, TV, etc. in Catalina and later versions of maxOS.
