YouTube wants me to update my location using my mobile device. That does not work for me because my iMAC cannot connect to my iPhone to receive the location information it needs.This is a classic catch 22 situation - major hassle.

Your iMac does not need to receive location form the iPhone. The iPhone itself can update the location, by being signed in to your account in the Youtube TV App on the iPhone and setting up the Home Location there manually. With that done, Youtube TV on the iMac can then use that location.
