I want delete photos off my iphone but keep them in the cloud. Help.

I want to delete the photos off my 7+ iphone but keep them in the cloud. When I do this the device wants to delete them everywhere, how do I avoid this.

you don't that is how it works when you enable syncing with icloud as outlined here Set up and use iCloud Photos - Apple Support
