Please can my Macbook Pro Charger be replaced immediately?

Not happy with my faulty, overheated MacBook Pro charger. Ian from Customer Service claims this is 'wear and tear', only had it 2 years. Apple, please can a replacement charger be processed immediately? Currently a health hazard. CN: 101766366718

Find the right power adapter and cable for your Mac notebook ...

Provided that the Power adapter is operating normally, that cable carries at most 20 Volts DC (difference between the one fully-insulated inner wire and the outer braided shield).

Most UnderWriters Laboratories (UL) regulations do not apply to voltages under 35 Volts.

One layer of ordinary Vinyl electrical tape is rated for 600 Volts protection.

--------

If you feel your health and safety are genuinely at risk, buy yourself a new power adapter now (at least as large a capacity as the old one) and argue with Apple about the cost later.

What do you make of the image?

I see a cable which appears to have been used very hard and is damaged. Some people are tough on cables. My partner destroys cables routinely, which we replace when they have been worn out (at our cost). I have never had a cable have its sheathing exposed.

Apple warrants accessories for one year from purchase against manufacturing defects. You admit this cable is two years old and appears to have been used pretty hard. Buy yourself a new cable and stop looking for Apple to replace the one you damaged.

Looks like there's been a lot of flexing, and the yellowing is typically from excessive heat or exposure to oils or other substances that make it yellow.

But regardless, a frayed cable is typically not eligible for warranty or AppleCare replacement. I specifically remember that from a time I brought in a cable that worked intermittently to ask if it might be replaced. I just needed to show that I had an active warranty for a device that included that model of cable. Since I covered it with shrink wrap (my way of protecting it) the supervisor wanted to see what it looked like underneath and said that if there was anything exposed it wouldn't be eligible.

I have done some repairs to a cable, but that was with my MagSafe one where there's a captive cable. Someone accidentally placed a chair on it and tore through the jacket, but it was otherwise intact. Just a little electrical tape and it was fine. Unless there are a lot of frayed braiding wires popping out, it's generally OK to just patch up and use.

If it's a USB-C cable (can't tell from the photo) then it's OK to use an inexpensive charge cable unless you need more than maybe 60W. USB-C cables are at a minimum rated for 3A and 20V is a common power adapter voltage for notebook computer power adapters.

Please can my Macbook Pro Charger be replaced immediately?
