My son has just arrived in Italy and cannot get his iPhone 13 mini to connect to data. Any ideas why or what the cause could be. All the usual stuff done. Roaming data is on. Any insights would be really appreciated.

Do you know if your son checked with his cellular provider to see what kind of international options were offered.....before....he left on the trip?
If not, he might be able to log onto his carrier's site using WiFi to enable international service.
It would not hurt.....but it may not help.....to try a Forced Restart on the phone.

Contact his cellular data provider. Or try turning phone off and on again.
