MacBook Pro Ultrawide External Display Resolution

So this is an odd one.

I have an AOC U34G2G4R3 34" ultra wide monitor with a DisplayPort -> USBC cable.

When I connect it to my work MacBook Pro (mid-2019 16") I get the full 3440x1440 resolution and 144Hz refresh rate but when I connect it to my personal MacBook Pro (15" 2019) using the same cable, the highest I can set it to is 2560x1080 at 60Hz.

I can't figure out why it's not giving me the native resolution as an option. It should support that resolution.

Greetings Pete2106,

If you haven't already try putting the 2019 MacBook Pro in safe mode before connecting to the external display again to see if it provides the option you're looking for: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

"Intel processor

  1. Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key as your Mac starts up.
  2. Release the key when you see the login window, then log in to your Mac.
  3. You might be asked to log in again. On either the first or second login window, you should see ”Safe Boot” in the upper-right corner of the window.

"

The technical specifications do say it may only get to 60Hz, but the resolution should still be supported. You can look into it further here: MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2019) - Technical Specifications

Take care.
