how can i get the maps icon on my iPhone back?

Check better if you accidentally moved that icon to a different screen or into a folder.

Shouldn't be this case, open your App Library and move the icon to the home screen, as per this support article:--> Organize the Home Screen and App Library on your iPhone - Apple Support
