Can I get a step by step guide to download files/photos to my new LaCie external drive?

I need to download my photos and a few files to my LaCie external drive. My computer is an OS X Yosemite, late 2009. I have registered the LaCie and downloaded the toolkit. Now I would like to see step by step -- how to download photos, etc. Help? So far nothing has worked in transferring my photos to my new mac laptop, so I'm downloading to an external drive to save them.

Not many steps. Basically just drag and drop in Finder. From wherever the files / photos are to the drive on the side panel.

If using the Photos App, use the Export option in the File Menu, and navigate to the LaCie Drive.
