Does your TV support AirPlay/AirPlay2?

AirPlay system requirements - Apple Support

Use AirPlay to stream video or mirror the screen of your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

If your TV does not natively support AirPlay (Apple’s WiFi protocol for mirroring/streaming content to supported devices), you can add an AppleTV box to your TV - connecting the AppleTV via HDMI to your TV’s HDMI input. In all likelihood, this alone will be sufficient to stream content to your TV. If an AppleTV App for the service that you require is not available, your iPad can stream or mirror to an AppleTV box via AirPlay.

Alternatively, you can connect your iPad to your TV using a cable - and adapter suitable for your iPad….:

Connect iPad to a display with a cable - Apple Support

If your iPad has a Lightning port, you’ll need an Apple Lightning Digital AV Adapter:

Recent models of iPad now use a USB-C port. For these models you would require an Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter:

There are third-party alternatives to Apple Adapters, however, many do not support HDCP - this being required to display copyright protected content on an external display. Apple’s own Adapters do support HDCP.
