Wifi connection

I tried to set my wifi security settings, according to Apple’s recommendation, however the website wouldn’t allow me to go on their dashboard to change my settings. It said I’m locked out.

unless it’s been hacked - I’m the administrator in my home

Presumably you've been looking at Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points - Apple Support. Your router's password may be printed on a label under the device, or you can search the web for default passwords for particular models. Unless you changed the password yourself and have now forgotten it. You should be able to reset the router to factory settings if needed.
