iOS 15.6 butt calls?

iPhone 10X w/iOS 15.6.

I make a call; complete it and hang up; go to home screen; phone makes a butt call.

Last week I had it plugged into CarPlay, pulled over to look up the answer to a question regarding a car loan; hung up and returned to home screen; put the phone down and began driving. Phone started making random butt calls, made them as fast as I could hit the hang up button in CarPlay. It took a bit before it was safe to stop again and close the phone app. VERY ANNOYING.

Is there anything a user can do to prevent this glitch?

I’ve found an “out of the box” fix that works most of the time for me. In my contacts, I set up a nonsense contact that shows up first in my list. It has no phone number so there is no one to butt call. See below.

The other thing you can do is make sure that after making or receiving a call, close the phone app by swiping up from the Home Screen.

Thanks for the effort, but…

That's unlikely to work. CarPlay is using the phone, and I don't think butt calls notice whether the phone is locked (mine likes when I put it down if it's not plugged into CarPlay).
