Just use an AC extension cord from the outlet to the charger.

Works just as good and far cheaper. Plus, you can get nearly any length that you need.

Sure, but the non Apple cables can be problematic.

If Apple doesn't sell longer cables, then I'd assume Apple feels you need to use the shorter ones. I agree.
