Apple Music keeps deleting downloads and song from playlist

Hi, I’m just wondering if anyone has a way to stop Apple Music from deleting songs I download and songs from playlist I make. I’m constantly working in places where there’s very little to no service and it’s frustrating when I look for a certain song just to find out that it can’t play, because the download was deleted and there’s no service. Anyone have a fix?

Howdy endallchaos,

Thanks for updating us with this information.

Let's confirm that you're up-to-date with the latest iOS version. If an update is available, you'll want to create a backup prior to installing it so your information is able to be recovered if needed. Check out the steps below for updating, and you can find more details here: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch wirelessly

1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.

2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.

3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.

4. If you see two software update options available, choose the one that you want to install.

The Settings app on iPhone showing options to update to iOS 14.8 or iOS 15.

5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do.

You might see that your device is up to date and that there's an upgrade available. For example, even if your device is up to date with the latest version of iOS 14, there might be an option to upgrade to iOS 15. You might want to upgrade iOS when you pair an accessory with iPhone.

If you're up-to-date, be sure you have enough available storage. If your iPhone storage becomes low, iOS may clear up space to prevent it from becoming full. For assistance with this, go to Settings > General > [Device] Storage.

Lastly, check that you have Sync Library enabled if you use Apple Music with more than just your iPhone to be sure that's not related. To check into this and learn more, take a look here: Turn on Sync Library with Apple Music - Apple Support

We hope that's able to help. If not, Contact Apple Support to check into this in more detail with you.

Have a great day!

Hey endallchaos,

We'd be happy to help out. Sounds like some songs that you've attempted to add to library and/or add to a playlist are disappearing.

You mentioned doing this in areas in which you have very little to no service though, which means that what you're experiencing is to be expected. The only way to prevent this from occurring would be to take these actions while connected to a reliable network connection whether that be cellular data or a Wi-Fi connection.

For more info on adding songs to your library and playlists, check out these resources:

We hope this helps out.

Take care!

I have been experiencing the same problem. I have a playlist of songs for my kids, and it seems that songs keep disappearing from it in bulk. I suspect it could be a sync issue, despite the fact that I have the "manually manage" box checked when I plug into computer. I will try to pay more attention to when songs disappear, but one example I can give happened this morning.

Just this morning I added two new albums to an existing playlist with a few albums so that there were over 50 songs. After plugging my phone into my computer and backing it up, one of the albums I just added was gone from the playlist, and all but 2 songs from the other just added album were gone, as were all but 2 songs from the previous albums in the playlist (50 songs reduced to 4). All songs were purchased from iTunes in the last several months, and when I look at the songs in the library they all have the little downloaded arrow next to them, not the cloud icon, so they should still be on my phone. As stated above I have the "manually manage" box checked for music when I backup my phone.

I am using iOS15.6 however I noticed this issue before the last update. This is very annoying, especially when you don't want all songs from an album in a playlist, so repopulating a playlist becomes time consuming, as well as realizing a previously downloaded song is no longer available when you're away from home and don't want to use cell to download again.

Thanks.
