Why is Excel so slow/freezes on my Mac?

I have a Macbook pro 2017 with macOS Monterey and Microsoft Excel 2022 Version 16.63.1 (Microsoft 365 subscription) running. Whenever I try to use any formulas for multiple rows in excel, it takes a lot of time to process and sometimes even stops responding. I used the same spreadsheet on a windows laptop and it works fine. I had no such issues in the past. It kept on crashing whenever I used a if and statement or xlookup the the other day. I tried it multiple times and currently excel says its calculating and shows 80% but I had it running since yesterday night. What's the issue here: OS, processor, RAM or excel itself?

Hey margnas,

Sounds like you're specifically noticing slow performance while using Microsoft Excel on your Mac. We'd be happy to help.

Since this behavior is specific to this particular app, which also isn't developed by Apple, you might need to reach out to the app developer for further assistance.

We'd suggest ensuring that both your Mac and Excel are both fully updated. If they already are, test things out in another user account to isolate things further and determine if this is a user specific or system-wide issue to start narrowing down the cause.

You can also use Activity Monitor to see where your resources are being consumed to isolate the behavior further too: Activity Monitor User Guide for Mac - Apple Support

If all else fails, uninstall the app and reinstall and test further.

We hope this helps out.

Take care!
