Was my phone hacked

Today I was using my phone for directions. The phone’s screen shut and when I put my passcode in it kept saying try again it was locked for hours and I could not reopen. This is a XSMax I have had for years. I tried all of the Online suggestions and finally had to reset the phone. A lot of the apps won’t let me sign on wanting me to sign on through their websites to share my data. I am not going to do that. Can’t get an appointment at the store feel like throwing it in the garbage
