iphone disconnects from Prius C's USB after a few seconds

For years, my iphone has worked with my Prius C's USB connection. Starting a few days ago, the following behavior consistently happens:

  • Plug phone into USB
  • Car connects
  • Music plays for about 10 seconds
  • Connection is lost

I cannot then re-establish either a USB nor Bluetooth connection at that point.

What happened in the latest iOS release that broke backwards compatibility with USB connections, and will this be addressed in a patch release quickly? Having to decide between recharging my phone and having driving directions is pretty bad, especially since my iphone's ability to hold a charge has been rapidly declining.

One possible stopgap solution would be a setting to disallow USB data connections while still allowing USB recharging - then I could recharge my phone and connect via bluetooth if and only if Prius C audio software doesn't get confused by such.

Thanks for replying, dcltdw, and that additional info, it really helps! We would recommend contacting your local Toyota dealer and see if there are any available software updates for your specific model. If you are still having an issue after doing that step, please contact Apple directly for further investigation:
