Lagging while editing in Premiere Pro, what to upgrade?

So I bought a refurbished MacBook 2 years ago, here are the specs:

But while editing video in Premiere Pro, the program is always lagging.

Is it a problem with the Graphics? Can I just get a screen and hook it up with a cable or should I get a new computer with upgrades?

Would help me so much...Thank you!!

Hi,

You should get eGPU for Adobe Premiere Pro running smoothly rather than get new MacBook Pro.

Emily, Premiere Pro performs better when there is more memory (RAM) installed and assigned to the app, a large scratch disk (for temporary files), a fast processor (CPU) and graphics card.

Your Mac has a fast CPU.

Memory can't be expanded. If you buy a new Mac at some point, I would recommend 32 or 64 Gb of RAM.

Ensure that lots of space is free on your Mac.

Another option is to attach an external drive then configure it as a scratch disk in Premiere Pro's settings.

Check Premiere Pro's settings to see how much RAM is assigned to the app. I recommend that you close all other apps when you use Premiere.
